MyGlam is now Ipsy

Monday, September 17, 2012

If you haven't heard the latest news it's no surprise since it just happened today - September 17, 2012 - MyGlam has rebranded itself as Ipsy with the launch of the new website.

So what is Ipsy? Apparently it comes from the Latin root, ipse, which means "sense of self". According to Michelle the word Ipsy comes from ipseity. From
Main Entry: ipseity
Part of Speech: n
Definition: selfhood; individual identity, individuality
Etymology: Latin ipse 'self'

Why MyGlam felt the need to rebrand itself? I have no clue but I intend to find out since people want to know why. It's still owned by Personalized Beauty Discovery, Inc. and they're still located in San Mateo, CA so other than the name change and new website there are no other changes to the Glam Bag which will still come out on a monthly basis.

To log into Ipsy simply use your old login information. You can use your real name or a pseudonym. You can even connect to your Facebook now and change your profile picture much easier than before.

Edit: I forgot to mention that there is a new website which has been months in the making. I had the chance to sneak peek it back in March at the meeting I was invited to. I and other bloggers there had numerous questions on the new site since it's similar to Beautylish crossed with Makeupbee.

The new site are not forums in the traditional sense where you go online, sign on and make posts to chat with people. Instead on the new site you can log in and create looks then post videos from YouTube that correspond to that look. For example, I created a look I entitled Bewitching Beauties and grouped in that look videos that took that theme to create a series of looks for viewers to try. I will at a later date have a tutorial up for those wondering how to use the new Ipsy site.

So what else is in store for Ipsy? Lots. What I can share with you is that an online store is under construction. Other brands launching under the Personalized Beauty Discovery, Inc. maybe in the works using the other Ipsy stylists. Along with the online store, possibly more brands launching there is still more surprises coming from Personalized Beauty Discovery, Inc. and

  1. this seems shady. like when you go to your fav store and u see they either moved or just shut down.

    1. I don't know about shady but it's definitely odd. I think the vast majority of comments I've seen so far on MUT and on their wall is a dislike for the new name. They can always change it back if it doesn't work out.

  2. Not a huge fan of the new name but I like their service so I'll stay for now.

  3. Why didn't they just call it " Tipsy"? That's all I can think of when I see the " new and improved" name.
    Not great at all.
AND I don't pay for subscription boxes so I can chat up their products with other people on the site's BBs. Or hit the other social media they've created to boost their brand. If they want publicity, they can generate it themselves!

  4. They rebranded because of all the bad reviews for MyGlam, scamming people, and people reporting a fishy smell from the bags, finding blood and mold on the bags.
