My thoughts: Olay Fresh Effects BB Cream (mini review)

Also in my Sunkissed VoxBox from Influenster was the Olay Fresh Effects BB cream in light to medium which is a very sheer tinted moisturizer. I'm going to be up front and tell you that I didn't like this product (on it's own) because of how sheer it is and doesn't cover my flaws as I would like.

I have many imperfections on my face due to Rosacea and age. I have large pores, oily and dry skin, red marks, acne scars and the last thing I want is to use a product that's so sheer that it doesn't cover those imperfections. The Olay Fresh Effects BB cream is too sheer for my needs but I do like it as a moisturizing base for my mineral foundations or for a normal powder foundation.

In the picture I compared the Olay Fresh Effects BB cream to Skin79 Absolute Total BB cream. Right now because I've out in the sun my Skin79 is way too light for me but you can see in the bottom swatch pic (of the products blended out) that the Skin79 BB cream covers up the tiny scratch just above my rabbit scar while the Olay BB cream didn't cover the rabbit scar up at all.

So the Olay website states this:
Models get airbrushed. You get real. Get a fresh and flawless complexion from five skin-perfecting benefits, plus SPF 15. Say bye-bye to blotches and imperfections and hello to 24-hour hydration with a splash of sheer color coverage—instantly.

Yeah... no it doesn't. This does not give me a fresh or flawless complexion. It doesn't cover up my blotches or imperfections much less provide me with 24 hours of hydration. It just doesn't work for me. At least it doesn't stink like Garnier's BB cream but it does come only in two colors - Fair to Light and Light to Medium.

That all said, while I didn't care for this on it's own I did use it as I would any other moisturizer and applied it to my face, waited a few minutes for the moisturizer to soak in then applied one of my normal foundations (I use different powder mineral foundations as well as MUFE Mat Velvet+ switching off depending on my mood and what I spot first). It's good as a base for foundations but on it's own on my face way too sheer and left me really uncomfortable being in public showing all my imperfections, blotches and scars.

Would I buy this? It's not on my to buy list that's for sure. I have favorite moisturizers that I'd rather buy than this product and I'm too picky on BB creams and so I'll stick with Skin79 which I like since it does cover up my imperfections.

  1. I actually liked it, but unfortunately I got the Fair to Light which is a bit too light for me. I've tried many BB and CC creams from Birchbox and the likes, but most seem to make me shiny! I would def consider purchasing the Light to Medium one.
