Ipsy & DHL

Thursday, July 11, 2013

And I use to think Streamlight was bad but just as bad if not worse in shipping goes to DHL. I've complained almost every month either on Facebook or on MakeupTalk about how long it takes my Ipsy bag to arrive from North Carolina and into my mailbox. So THIS month I'm going to track this publicly to see exactly how long it takes. So this post will be updated until my daughters' bags and my own bag arrives.

My Ipsy Glam Bag
  • Unknown status as of 7/11/2013. No tracking email yet.
  • E-Mail with tracking arrived on: Wed 7/10/2013 11:41 AM
  • My tracking as of 10:46 PM Pacific on 7/12/2013
  • Last location as of 7/12/2013 5:27 AM Pacific: Hebron, Kentucky (arrival)
  • Distance, according to Google Maps, to our town: 2,231 miles
Bag weight: 0.6576 lbs.

7/12/2013: Ok, for whatever reason my Outlook program "ate" my email from Ipsy on Wednesday. The girls received theirs roughly around the same time but mine showed up about a 1/2 hour later and my stupid email program decided to junkmail it and stick it in it's own junk box instead of the Google junk box.

Any how, my bag is stuck in Kentucky right now which may mean my bag maybe stuck in Kentucky until Monday! Ugh!

The Eldest Daughter
  • E-Mail with tracking arrived on: Wed 7/10/2013 11:16 AM

  • Last location as of 7/11/2013 2:44 PM Pacific: Hebron, Kentucky (departed)
  • Distance, according to Google Maps, to our town: 2,231 miles
Bag weight: 0.4944 lbs.

The Middle Daughter
  • E-Mail with tracking arrived on: Wed 7/10/2013 11:16 AM
  • Her tracking as of 2:46 PM Pacific
  • Last known location as of 7/11/2013 2:44 PM Pacific: Hebron, Kentucky (departed)
  • Distance, according to Google Maps, to our town: 2,231 miles
Bag weight: 0.4201 lbs

The Youngest Daughter
  • E-Mail with tracking arrived on: Wed 7/10/2013 11:16 AM
  • Her tracking as of 2:44 PM Pacific.
  • Last known location as of 7/11/2013 2:44 PM Pacific: Hebron, Kentucky (arrived).
  • Distance, according to Google Maps, to our town: 2,231 miles.
Bag weight: 0.4991 lbs

So as of this blog post all three of my daughters' bags are in the Hebron, Kentucky area with two of the bags traveling together and the third a day behind. Next stop for their bags should be Compton, CA and it should arrive there by the 13th or 14th. My bag, no idea where it's at or if it's been shipped yet since I have (as of 3:07 PM Pacific) yet to receive my tracking info. Last month the eldest didn't get her tracking # but the bag came regardless.

So over the course of the next few days, week or so, I'll be tracking our bags to see what the status of it is. It'll be interesting to see if it's my perception of how long it's taking or if DHL really is the worst (or one of the worst) shipping companies out there.

If I go by the past two months their bags should arrive nine (calender) days after it first shipped so they should get their bags on or after the 18th. Mine... again no clue.

Update: 7/12/2013 10:54 PM

So here it is 7/12/2013 at 10:54 PM Pacific. I checked the girls tracking and all three are on the road to California while mine is stuck in Kentucky. :|

Looks like my eldest and middle daughters' bags are traveling together with the youngest daughter's bag a day behind and mine... who knows how many days behind. If it leaves tomorrow (Saturday) it'll be two days behind the older two's bags and a day behind the youngest but if it doesn't leave until Monday then I'll be what... three to four days behind the girls? It's highly possible once in California all four bags will catch up and make their way here to WA at the same time and we'll still get the bags at the same time.

I'm not sure if that irks me or not, one hand it does because you would think two of the four bags would arrive before the other two but on the other hand at least we'll possibly get all our bags at the same time. I know, I know... it'll get here when it gets here but I want my bag! LOL I miss Ipsy's warehouse being in California because I'd get my bag three to four days after tracking and now it's at least double that if not more (which is why I'm doing this blog post to see if I'm just impatient or if it's DHL that's slow).

I wonder which will get here first. My Ipsy bag or my Birchbox order (not the subscription box but an order I placed a few nights ago) which is going via ground. Birchbox also is notorious for having slow shipment so if my Birchbox order gets here first before any of the Ipsy bags then I'll say that DHL is definitely slower than the Pony Express. LOL.

Update: 7/13/2013 7:27 AM

Last night I checked at roughly around 10:40 PM Pacific (1:30 AM Eastern) and the tracking numbers were not updated. This morning I check and my two of girls bags appear to arrived in Compton, CA at around 12:33 AM PT. It's annoying that DHL tracking wasn't updated when I checked last night since apparently the girls bags arrived in Compton when I checked.

The eldest bag's status (left); the middle one's bag status (right).

As for the youngest daughter's bag... well it just left Kentucky on Friday morning. If it takes two days for the bag to arrive in California like the other then her sisters' bags then her bag should get to Compton on Sunday, July 14.

And the status of my own bag? Well, it's still a day behind my youngest daughter's bag but at least it didn't stay in Kentucky for more than a day.

So if mine left this morning (Eastern time) then it should arrive in California on Monday, July 15.

Looking at one of the tracking #s for June once it arrived in Compton, CA the bags remained there for two days. So if this holds true for this month then the first two bags should remain in Compton until Monday and my youngest daughter's bag should remain there until Tuesday, July 16 (if it does arrive there tomorrow). If my bag does arrive in Compton on Monday then it'll be there until Wednesday, July 17. From Compton, CA the bags typically go to Auburn, WA and is transferred to the USPS in Auburn, WA. This usually happens in the same day but what I don't understand is why after it arrives in Auburn it takes two more days to arrive at the local postal hub. Once it makes it to the hub, depending on the time it makes it to my local hub, we typically get the bag the same day. So theoretically... the first two bags should arrive in our mailbox on the 17th, the 3rd bag on the 18th and my bag on the 19th.

A nine day trip which ok, that isn't too bad but I remember when MyGlam shipped from California and from the day I got my tracking to the day the packages arrives it was only THREE days so this is triple the time for me. I'm impatient, I want my bag ASAP and nine days is just too slow but still it IS faster than Streamlite (which Birchbox used) since if I recall correctly that took up to 15 days at times.

So more waiting and another update tomorrow!

Update: July 14, 2013 10:21 PM Pacific

Ok, so I've checked our tracking just a short time ago. No screenshots until morning since if the DHL site is like last time there won't be a reliable update until morning. According to the info currently up the youngest daughter's bad has arrived and left Compton, CA this morning within an hour of each other (around 8:30 AM and 9:30 AM, give or take). That's the fastest I've seen it in Compton. Both the eldest and middle girls' bags arrived in Auburn, WA this evening (around 5:30 PM Pacific). As for mine... no updates since it left Kentucky so it may or may not be in California right now.

So far the girls bags are ahead of schedule as originally I anticipated the older two girls' bags to be in Compton until tomorrow morning and the youngest not to arrive in Compton until tomorrow but so far theirs are ahead by a day (and in the youngest's case two days). Mine, if the arriving ahead of schedule holds true, should arrive there tonight or early tomorrow and may possibly leave Compton sometime tomorrow. I'll check in the morning and have screenshots then.

Update: July 15, 2013 10:27 AM Pacific

Well what do you know, my bag is Compton, CA! The bags for the oldest two girls have been transferred over to USPS today and the youngest's bag has made it's way out of Compton. If the patterns hold then her bag should be with the USPS tomorrow and possibly mine as well. Looks like my bag has almost caught up with hers. It's highly possible that all four bags will be delivered on the same day despite the fact that only two of the four bags traveled together and one was a few days behind. (Pics up on Facebook.)

Update: July 17, 2013 10:24 AM Pacific

It's been almost exactly 48 hours since I last checked the tracking and it looks like things are "stuck" in Federal Way, WA (according to DHL tracking) however looks are deceiving because in reality two of the four bags will be here TODAY!

My bag has now left Compton (left yesterday) but it hasn't arrived in WA yet.
As for my daughters bags.

Youngest daughter's: 7/16/2013 10:32 AM PT Federal Way, WA SHIPMENT ACCEPTED BY USPS
Middle daughter's: 7/15/2013 10:25 AM PT Federal Way, WA SHIPMENT ACCEPTED BY USPS
Eldest daughter's: 7/15/2013 10:25 AM PT Federal Way, WA SHIPMENT ACCEPTED BY USPS

So since I know three of the bags were accepted by the USPS I checked the USPS site. My bag obviously no information since it's not in their hands. The other three... Two are out for delivery (the oldest two) and the third is expected to be delivered tomorrow. Mine should be, if it's a day behind the youngest daughter's bag, should be here on Friday which holds to my above theory that it's taking at least nine days for our bags to arrive. Granted this is not as bad as Streamlite (which Birchbox used in the past) but it's still pretty slow when items are being moved from one side of the country to the other. In a perfect world Ipsy would have both an East Coast fulfillment center AND a West Coast one so everyone can get their bags roughly at the same time. It's HARD watching people talk about their bags a week or two before I get my bag and I know others have the same feelings.

  1. Hey ok I am soo glad you did this post! I never ever get my bag shipped to Forest Ga. I was like what in the world am I even going to get a bag. So what does this mean our bags are going to take longer time. Usually its in Indiana in one day, now its GA. This has never happend

  2. Well, since I live in Georgia, I wonder if my bag goes to California first??? Haha. Usually it gets here by now, but this month I haven't even received any shipping information yet. I was really hoping to get this bag before my vacation next week.

  3. I'm GA got my tracking code today and information just showed up, says its in transit at Hebron KY lol

  4. See I think everyone is having issues with this, my tracking code doesn't even work, it keeps saying not found. This is my first bag so I'm scared I won't even get it at all.

  5. i got my code on Thursday and as of this morning it's still not showing up with DHL tracking. this combined with USPS sending my Birchbox 200 miles in the wrong direction has me incredibly frustrated.

  6. For everyone having issues with your DHL tracking code ( I got my tracking email on Thursday 7/11 and it didn't work), try removing the first number on the tracking code string. I read this tip on a couple sites discussing ipsy tracking issues. Ipsy eventually sent me the correct code on 7/13 via e-mail. My bag is only 0.4094 lb :( I really dislike DHL as well. My bag is being tendered to USPS in Arizona as of today, where I live :)

  7. Ugh I hate the DHL shipping too. I live in Hawaii and usually get it the next weekday after it arrives in the state (Honolulu, HI). Twice this year I received bags in the middle of the next month and had gotten replacements AND that next months bag before the original arrived. This month it said out to delivery on a different island. Later that day updated to missent and said outfor delivery again to the same exact location. I ended up getting it 2 days later. Why they can't switch back to the regular USPS is beyond me.

  8. My bag took the same amount of time....and i'm in Florida!
